A Picture of a Picture

A Picture of a Picture emerged from the collaborative synergy between Canadian ambient musician Aidan Baker and the experimental drone project thisquietarmy. Released in 2009 on the Killer Pimp label, the record serves as a bridge between Baker's textured, guitar-driven soundscapes and the dense, rhythmic industrial drone favored by thisquietarmy. This collaboration was born out of the prolific experimental scene in the late 2000s, where both artists were actively exploring the intersections of post-rock, doom, and electronic music, aiming to create a monolithic sonic environment that felt both expansive and claustrophobic.

The album's design and aesthetic focus on a minimalist, monolithic presentation that complements its heavy, atmospheric content. By layering loops and manipulated feedback, the duo intended to craft a singular, evolving narrative rather than a collection of disparate tracks. Upon its release, the work was received by the underground drone and avant-garde communities as a significant technical achievement in layering and sustain, solidifying both artists' reputations as prominent figures in the modern experimental guitar movement.
