Where it came from
Ab Goldap was released in 2014 by the German label weissbooks.w, serving as a significant entry in the discography of multi-instrumentalist and free jazz improviser Rüdiger Carl. The album reflects Carl's long-standing commitment to experimental soundscapes and his ability to bridge the gap between traditional jazz structures and contemporary avant-garde exploration, a career path he has navigated since the late 1960s.
The project is characteristic of Carl's minimalist and intellectually rigorous approach to composition. By the time of this release, Carl had established himself as a central figure in the European free improvisational scene. The album was conceived to offer listeners a nuanced, focused sonic experience, designed to be heard as a singular artistic statement rather than a collection of disparate tracks, and it was received by critics as a poignant addition to his diverse body of recorded work.
