Where it came from
Released in 2014, Acústico y monoaural serves as a deliberate homage to the golden age of tango. The Orquesta Típica Sans Souci formed with the specific mission of reconstructing the stylistic identity of the great orchestras from the 1940s, eschewing modern studio enhancements to capture the authentic, raw timbre of the era. The production was engineered to evoke the sonic characteristics of early monaural recordings, focusing on the balanced interplay between the bandoneón section, strings, and piano.
The ensemble, led by bandoneonist Leonardo Ferreyra, sought to preserve the rigorous arrangements and rhythmic precision that defined tango dance music. By utilizing vintage-style recording techniques, the group aimed to minimize digital processing, favoring a natural room sound that highlights the dynamic range of a traditional ten-piece orchestra. The album received positive critical attention within the international tango community for its commitment to historical accuracy and its successful preservation of the genre's mid-century aesthetic.
