Archie Semple Quintet Cuff Billett And Bill Greenow Quintet

This release on the Jazzology label serves as a significant archival contribution to the British traditional jazz scene of the mid-20th century. Compiled and released in 2006, the record brings together two distinct sessions featuring clarinetist Archie Semple, trumpet player Cuff Billett, and saxophonist Bill Greenow. These tracks capture the vibrant, improvisational spirit of the post-war UK jazz revival, a movement deeply inspired by the classic New Orleans style but interpreted through the lens of local performers who frequented the active London club circuit.

The album reflects the dedication of Jazzology Records, an American label founded by George H. Buck Jr., to preserving historic jazz recordings that might otherwise have been lost to time. By grouping these specific sessions into a single collection, the release provides a cohesive overview of the melodic, ensemble-driven sound characteristic of British trad jazz. Its design and curation prioritize historical documentation over commercial sheen, ensuring that the interplay between Semple, Billett, and Greenow is presented with the clarity necessary for fans of regional jazz history.
