Where it came from
This 2017 release serves as a curated collection dedicated to the legacy of Arturo Somohano, a prominent 20th-century Puerto Rican conductor and composer. Somohano was highly regarded for his efforts to bring symphonic music to a broader public audience, frequently organizing open-air concerts and conducting the Orquesta Filarmónica de Puerto Rico. This specific CD release on the Calle Mayor label functions as an archival tribute, intended to preserve his unique arrangements and contributions to Caribbean and classical musical fusion.
The recording highlights Somohano’s distinctive approach to orchestration, which often blended traditional symphonic structures with the vibrant rhythms of his heritage. By gathering these recordings under the Calle Mayor imprint, the release provides listeners with an essential overview of his career. It was produced to ensure that the historical significance of his work remains accessible to new generations of musicologists and fans of Latin American classical compositions.
