Where it came from
Released in 2003 under the Discos Fuentes label, Ayer y hoy stands as a significant collaborative project between singer-songwriter Fabián Corrales and accordionist Juan José Granados. The album emerged during a period of sustained evolution for vallenato music, reflecting the duo's commitment to the genre's traditional storytelling roots while adapting to the production standards of the early 2000s. It served as a showcase for Corrales' prowess as a composer, a skill that had previously established his reputation among many of the genre's most prominent vocalists.
The album's design and musical direction prioritize the lyrical depth typical of Corrales' work, paired with the sophisticated accordion arrangements provided by Granados. The collection captures the romantic and nostalgic themes central to their artistic partnership, aiming to bridge the gap between classic vallenato sensibilities and contemporary listening habits. Upon its release, the record was well-received by fans of the Colombian coastal sound, reinforcing the pair's influence within the vallenato community and remaining a staple for enthusiasts of the genre's sentimental balladry.
