Where it came from
Released in 2006 on the iconic Discos Fuentes label, Especial y diferente represents a significant collaboration within the Vallenato genre. Fabián Corrales, a celebrated singer and composer known for his romantic lyrical style, teamed up with the acclaimed accordionist Chemita Ramos to produce this collection. The album was conceived to showcase the fusion of Corrales' melodic songcraft with Ramos' mastery of the traditional accordion, capturing the rhythmic vitality that defines contemporary Colombian folk music.
The album arrived during a period when the Vallenato scene was evolving, balancing deep-rooted traditional structures with the more polished production values characteristic of early 2000s commercial releases. It was received as a testament to the enduring chemistry between the two artists, reinforcing Corrales’ reputation as a prolific songwriter who could bridge the gap between soulful ballads and the high-energy dance halls of the Valledupar region.
