Provenance

Where it came from

Before The Rise was released in 2005 by BCD Music Group, emerging during a period when Mike Jones and Slim Thug were central figures in the surging Houston hip-hop scene. The compilation functions as a collection of tracks featuring these prominent Texas rappers alongside Missy Elliott, capturing the regional sound that propelled Southern hip-hop into national prominence during the mid-2000s.

The album reflects the era's industry practice of aggregating studio recordings and collaborations to capitalize on the rising popularity of the Swishahouse collective and their affiliates. While the project serves as a historical document of the collaborative environment in Houston at the time, it was received as a supplementary release within the broader discographies of the artists involved rather than a core studio album.
