Where it came from
Released in 2015 on the Tiger label, 'OneTwoThreeFour' serves as the fifth installment in the 'Breaking Borders' project led by Danish saxophonist Benjamin Koppel. The series was conceived as a cross-cultural and genre-fluid platform, bringing together international jazz virtuosos to explore the intersection of structured composition and spontaneous improvisation. This specific record features a tight-knit quartet comprising Koppel alongside drummer Peter Erskine, bassist Johannes Weidenmueller, and pianist Jacob Christoffersen.
The album is noted for its cohesive group interplay, reflecting the collaborative atmosphere established during the sessions. The quartet focused on a blend of post-bop sensibilities and melodic storytelling, drawing on the collective experience of musicians who have shaped contemporary jazz in both European and American scenes. Upon its release, the project was recognized for its technical precision and the seamless chemistry between the rhythm section and Koppel's lyrical saxophone work, cementing its place as a notable entry in the 'Breaking Borders' discography.
