Where it came from
Released in 2014, the self-titled debut album by Benjamin Booker emerged from the burgeoning blues-rock and garage-punk scene of New Orleans. Booker, a Florida-born songwriter who moved to the city to refine his sound, crafted an album marked by raw, energetic guitar work and deeply personal, gravelly vocal delivery. The project captured the attention of critics who noted its frenetic intensity and its ability to blend classic blues influences with a modern, lo-fi grit.
The album was distributed in Japan through Hostess Entertainment Unlimited, a label noted for curating high-quality international independent rock releases for the Japanese market. The production choices reflect a desire to maintain the visceral spontaneity of Booker's live performances, eschewing over-polishing in favor of a punchy, analog-inspired aesthetic. Upon its release, the record was widely lauded for its authenticity and served as the breakout moment that propelled Booker onto major festival stages.
