Where it came from
The B[T]B Split Vol.1 was released in 2009 by the Japanese label Kick Rock Invasion, emerging during the peak era of the global pop-punk and emo-pop crossover movement. The split EP was designed to introduce international bands to the Japanese market, pairing the Texas-based Artist Vs Poet with the UK-based Racing Kites!. This release exemplified the label's strategy of bridging the gap between Western independent scenes and the burgeoning Japanese alternative music culture.
The aesthetic of the EP follows the high-energy, DIY-inspired graphic style typical of the late 2000s indie-rock scene, utilizing bold typography and bright, saturated colors to grab the attention of music fans browsing independent record stores. While the individual designers remain largely uncredited, the packaging reflects a deliberate effort to package the two distinct acts as a cohesive unit, a standard practice for the 'B[T]B' (Bridge the Borders) series, which aimed to facilitate international fan bases through shared releases.
