Where it came from
Carmen Costa En Mexico was released in 2009 by Polydor as a retrospective tribute to the legacy of the legendary Brazilian singer Carmen Costa. The collection was curated to honor her profound impact on the bolero and samba-canção genres, drawing from her extensive discography that spanned several decades of musical evolution in Brazil. It serves as a bridge between her early mid-century recordings and the enduring influence she maintained throughout her long career.
The design of the album reflects the vibrant aesthetic of the golden era of Latin music, utilizing archival photography that captures Costa’s elegant stage presence. Polydor’s approach in assembling this release was to provide both long-time aficionados and new listeners with a cohesive narrative of her artistic journey, prioritizing the preservation of her vocal nuance. The release was well-received by critics as a necessary archival effort that solidified her status as a central figure in the history of Brazilian popular music.
