Carmen-Fantasie, Paganini-Variationen, Rhapsody In Blue U. A.

Released in 2001 on the Audio Video Aktuell label, this recording showcases the Duo Sarasate, an ensemble known for their dedicated interpretations of virtuoso violin repertoire. The collection serves as a focused retrospective of high-energy, technically demanding works, anchoring the program with Pablo de Sarasate’s Carmen-Fantasie and George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. It was produced for an audience seeking traditional classical arrangements performed with contemporary precision, aiming to highlight the interplay between the violin and piano.

The selection of pieces reflects a common approach in late 20th and early 21st-century classical compilations, which sought to juxtapose Romantic-era pyrotechnics with 20th-century melodic classics. The design and curation emphasize the duo’s technical prowess rather than experimental reinterpretations, catering to listeners who appreciate standard concert repertoire in a clean, accessible studio environment. The release is a niche entry in the catalogue of its era, marking a period where specialized boutique labels frequently issued compact, virtuosic performance programs.
