Carmen Maki Blues Creation

Originally released in 1971 on the CBS/Sony label, this collaboration between the Japanese rock icon Carmen Maki and the heavy blues-rock outfit Blues Creation is a seminal artifact of the early Japanese psychedelic scene. It was born from a period of cross-pollination where local artists were increasingly blending traditional blues structures with the experimental, fuzz-heavy textures of contemporary hard rock. The record was intended to push Maki—then primarily known for her folk-pop background—into a more aggressive and emotionally raw musical territory.

The album was produced during a high-water mark for the Tokyo underground scene, characterized by its gritty production values and extended improvisational jams.
