Carny / Jamie T

Released in 2008 by the London-based label Prestel, the Carny / Jamie T split single captures the spirit of the late-2000s UK indie and electronic scene. The track features the genre-blending outfit Man Like Me, who were known for their chaotic, high-energy fusion of grime, pop, and electronic dance music. This release served as an introduction to their irreverent style, which often relied on catchy hooks and a DIY aesthetic that felt native to the underground London club circuit.

The design of the single reflects the gritty, low-fidelity visual language prevalent in that era of British music culture. Man Like Me aimed to subvert the polished norms of the mainstream industry, opting for a sound that felt both immediate and unrefined. While the release was niche, it established a foundation for the band’s reputation as reliable purveyors of eclectic dance-pop, eventually earning them a dedicated following among those seeking a more experimental take on modern indie music.
