Where it came from
Released in 2015 by the British independent label FMR Records, Chamber 4 represents a convergence of European improvisational talent. The project features guitarist Marcelo dos Reis and trumpeter Luís Vicente alongside the French brothers Théo Ceccaldi on violin and Valentin Ceccaldi on cello. The album captures the group's intent to push the boundaries of chamber jazz, blending structured compositions with the raw, spontaneous energy of free improvisation.
The ensemble was formed with a focus on exploring the textures of a string-heavy quartet augmented by brass. The recording is noted for its intricate interplay and the distinct, avant-garde stylistic signatures of the individual performers, who were already well-regarded figures in the European creative music scene at the time. Critical reception highlighted the album as a rigorous example of modern experimentalism, marking a significant entry in the FMR catalog for its balance of technical precision and artistic fluidity.
