Das Klavier - Meisterhaft Gespielt (Virtuoso Piano Music)

Released under the Koch Schwann Musica Mundi label, this collection serves as a refined exploration of the late eighteenth-century Viennese classical repertoire. It features works by Franz Anton Hoffmeister and Joseph Haydn, performed by the Kölner Kammerorchester under the direction of Helmut Müller-Brühl, alongside pianists Wilhelm Neuhaus and Heinz Schröter. The compilation was curated to showcase the elegance of the period, emphasizing the dialogue between the soloist and the chamber ensemble, a hallmark of the Musica Mundi series which focused on preserving lesser-known but historically significant compositions from the Classical and early Romantic eras.

The design and production of the disc reflect the standard scholarly approach of Koch Schwann, which aimed to provide high-fidelity recordings of repertoire that fell outside the standard concert canon. By pairing the technical proficiency of Neuhaus and Schröter with the historically informed guidance of Müller-Brühl, the production sought to capture an authentic, chamber-sized sound characteristic of the late eighteenth-century aesthetic. Upon release, the disc was noted for its clean, balanced soundstage, finding its place primarily in the libraries of serious classical music enthusiasts and students of Haydn and his contemporaries.
