Where it came from
Released in 2010 on the independent label De Ysfabrik, De Beste Liedjes van Vitalski is a musical compilation by the Flemish performer and writer Vitalski, known primarily for his work as a slam poet, stand-up comedian, and pioneer of the 'Levensshow' format. The collection serves as a curated retrospective of his musical excursions, capturing the idiosyncratic, cabaret-influenced style he cultivated within the Belgian underground arts scene.
The album reflects Vitalski's background in performance art, characterized by an ironic and narrative-driven approach to songcraft. Produced as a document of his creative output during the mid-2000s, the design and selection emphasize his persona as a theatrical raconteur. While it maintains an niche appeal, it remains a recognized artifact of the Antwerp literary and performance circuit, documenting a specific era of Vitalski's multidisciplinary career.
