Where it came from
Released by Electrola in 2021, Déjà Vu (Das Beste Von Matthias Reim) serves as a career-spanning retrospective for the German pop-rock singer-songwriter. The collection arrives at a point in Reim's legacy where his early 1990s breakthrough, defined by his signature blend of Schlager and rock elements, has cemented him as a permanent fixture in the German music landscape. It was curated to provide both long-term fans and new listeners with a consolidated overview of his most commercially successful material.
The design of the compilation reflects the straightforward, high-energy aesthetic consistent with Reim's brand. The artwork and tracklisting focus on the songs that defined his chart presence, prioritizing established hits over deep cuts. While it follows the standard industry model for a 'best-of' release, it was received as a functional and accessible reference point for his discography, reinforcing the enduring popularity of his specific style of German-language crossover music.
