Maria Durch Ein Dornwald Ging

This track appeared on a 1991 release by the ensemble identified as Anonymous (25) under the Electrola label. The recording features a rendition of 'Maria durch ein Dornwald ging,' a traditional German Advent hymn that dates back to the 19th century. The piece originated in the Eichsfeld region and is notable for its contemplative, folk-influenced melody that contrasts the harsh imagery of the 'thorn forest' with the promise of the coming Nativity.

The Electrola release from 1991 highlights the endurance of this hymn within German cultural traditions. By the late 20th century, the song had been widely adopted by various choirs and folk musicians, shifting from its regional ecclesiastical roots into a staple of broader seasonal repertoires. The arrangement chosen for this pressing emphasizes a choral or instrumental sincerity intended to evoke the solemnity of the Advent season, a characteristic approach for Electrola's archival and classical folk efforts during this period.
