Where it came from
Dornig was released in 2015 by the German folk-metal band Ragnaröek, appearing under the Trollzorn label. The album emerged during a period when the band sought to solidify their blend of traditional folk instrumentation with heavier metal sensibilities, focusing on themes rooted in historical and cultural narratives. As part of the label's roster, the album contributed to Trollzorn's identity as a hub for Central European pagan and folk-influenced metal acts.
The design of the album reflects the stark and atmospheric aesthetic typical of the genre during this era, aiming to evoke a sense of landscape and heritage. The visual direction and production were intended to capture the band's transition into more mature song structures, emphasizing a connection to the raw, naturalistic themes present in their lyrics. Upon release, it was met with positive reception from niche publications that follow the Germanic folk-metal scene, credited for its consistent thematic focus.
