Where it came from
Dornröschen War Ein Schönes Kind was released by the Phonica label in 2009, drawing upon the rich tradition of German children's folk songs and fairy tales. The recording features the prestigious Rundfunk-Kinderchor Leipzig and Rundfunk-Kinderchor Berlin, two institutions long celebrated for their technical precision and historical significance in the cultural landscape of the former East Germany. These choirs have maintained a rigorous standard of choral excellence, preserving classic German musical heritage through professional-grade vocal arrangements.
The album serves as a curated collection of Märchenlieder, or fairy-tale songs, and spoken narratives designed to introduce younger generations to traditional storytelling. The production reflects a commitment to the pedagogical value of choral music, utilizing the clear, disciplined voices of the children's choirs to convey traditional narratives such as the story of Sleeping Beauty. It was received by listeners as a reliable, high-quality archival resource for educators and parents seeking to maintain the continuity of German oral and musical folklore in a digital age.
