Where it came from
Dreams Are Ten A Penny was originally recorded in 1973 by the British pop ensemble Kincade, a studio project fronted by John Carter. The track became a significant international hit, particularly in Europe, for its upbeat production and melodic sensibility characteristic of early 1970s light pop. It was designed to capitalize on the catchy, radio-friendly sound that defined Carter's successful songwriting career, which also included hits for groups like The Flower Pot Men.
The 2005 release on Akasa Records serves as a retrospective issue of this material, featuring the song alongside tracks by the obscure act Et Cetera. This specific release functions as a niche archival effort, intended to make mid-seventies pop recordings accessible to collectors of that era's sound. While not a high-profile industry release, it reflects the enduring legacy of 1970s studio-pop and the practice of repackaging classic singles for digital-age audiences.
