Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2004 by the Vision-Air label, this recording serves as a historical and acoustic documentation of the restoration of the 1753 Thomas organ located in the Basilica of Our Lady in Tongeren, Belgium. The project was conceived to capture the unique tonal characteristics of the instrument following a meticulous reconstruction by the L. Picard workshop, aiming to bridge the gap between 18th-century Flemish organ building and contemporary performance practice.

The production features the expertise of organist Luc Ponet alongside the Vlaams Radio Koor and director Hendrik Vanden Abeele. The design and sound engineering were focused on highlighting the cathedral's complex acoustics and the intricate registration of the Thomas organ, positioning the album as a scholarly reference for enthusiasts of historical Flemish keyboard repertoire and sacred choral music.
