Fritz Reiner Conducts Mozart: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Divertimenti Nos. 17 & 11

This recording emerged from the archives of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, documenting sessions held in the late 1950s under the baton of Fritz Reiner. Reiner, renowned for his rigorous precision and clarity, captured these Mozart works during a period when his collaboration with the Chicago Symphony was establishing a new gold standard for orchestral high-fidelity recordings. The performances are noted for their lean, athletic interpretation of Mozart, moving away from the more romanticized, lush textures that were common in earlier decades.

The 2005 release by the British label Testament was designed to preserve and remaster these historic performances for a modern audience. Testament is widely regarded for its meticulous restoration of broadcast tapes and studio masters from the mid-twentieth century. By utilizing the original stereo masters, the label aimed to showcase the sonic transparency and dynamic range that Reiner and his RCA producers achieved in Orchestra Hall, providing listeners with a clean, unvarnished look at the conductor's disciplined approach to the Classical repertoire.
