Where it came from
Gesloten Hart is a tribute album released in 2011 to honor the legacy of Wannes Van de Velde, a seminal figure in Flemish folk music known for his evocative songwriting and devotion to the Antwerp dialect. The project brought together a diverse group of contemporary Belgian performers, including actors Lucas Van Den Eynde and Tiny Bertels, alongside musicians like Kathleen Vandenhoudt and Tom Vanstiphout, to reinterpret Van de Velde's catalog through a modern lens.
The album was produced under the De Muziekfaktorij label, with arrangements steered by Stefan Wellens and his orchestra. The creative direction aimed to strip back the original folk arrangements to highlight the lyrical depth and storytelling inherent in Van de Velde's work. Upon its release, the collection was received as a respectful and atmospheric homage, serving both as a preservation of traditional Flemish cultural heritage and as a showcase for the versatility of the participating artists.
