Glenn Miller Time / Echoes Of Glenn Miller

The New Glenn Miller Orchestra was established with the blessing of the Miller estate to maintain the legacy of the original big band sound following the dissolution of the original group. This 1998 release, distributed by BMG, serves as an authentic recreation of the arrangements that defined the swing era, specifically targeting listeners who sought a high-fidelity preservation of the classic Miller aesthetic. It represents a broader trend in late 1990s music production where labels sought to capitalize on renewed nostalgia for the big band era by commissioning touring orchestras to record definitive studio albums.

The album reflects a commitment to the trademark 'Miller sound,' characterized by the unique voicing of the clarinet leading the reed section. While the band itself was a professional ensemble operating under the licensed name rather than a collection of original members, the production was carefully curated to mimic the swing, phrasing, and balance of the 1940s originals. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a functional, nostalgic tribute, appreciated more by enthusiasts of traditional jazz and big band music than by contemporary critics tracking pop music shifts.
