Gold Live

Gold Live was released in 2003 as a self-published CD by German avant-garde musician Rüdiger Carl and woodwind player Burkard Kunkel. The recording emerged from their long-standing collaboration in the European free improvisation scene, a genre defined by its commitment to spontaneous composition and the rejection of traditional musical structures. By releasing this through his own label rather than a major distributor, Carl maintained total creative control, reflecting the independent spirit and DIY ethos common among experimental artists operating outside the mainstream industry.

The album serves as a document of the pair's live interactions, featuring Carl on accordion and saxophone alongside Kunkel’s work on various woodwinds. The performance style captures the visceral, unpredictable nature of their improvisational practice, prioritizing atmospheric textures and tonal experimentation over conventional melody. While the release remained a niche offering primarily for listeners familiar with the German improvisational circuit, it stands as a testament to the technical intimacy and sonic exploration the two musicians developed over decades of collaborative work.
