Handel Organ Concertos

Released in 1999 on the Chix label, this recording of Handel's Organ Concertos captures a collaboration between organist Jane Watts and conductor David Willcocks. The project was conceived during a period of renewed interest in historically informed performance practices, though it leans into a more traditional, lush interpretation of Baroque repertoire that emphasizes technical clarity and tonal warmth. The release fits into the broader catalogue of the Chix label, which focused on bringing sophisticated classical interpretations to a wider, accessible audience during the late nineties.

The album serves as a testament to the partnership between the performers and the ensemble. Jane Watts, noted for her virtuosic approach to the organ, works in tandem with Sir David Willcocks, whose decades of experience with choral and orchestral arrangements provide a structured foundation for the concertos. The recording was designed to showcase the full dynamic range of the pipe organ within the intimate context of Handel's original compositions, and it was generally received by listeners as a reliable, polished rendition that maintained the dignity of the eighteenth-century source material.
