Where it came from
Released in 2006, this handcrafted CD is a niche, self-published project by German artist and musician Klaus-Jürgen Spannhoff. Spannhoff is known for his work in experimental music and sound art, often utilizing a DIY approach to production that emphasizes the physical, tactile nature of the recording media as much as the audio content itself. This release is characteristic of his commitment to independent production, bypassing traditional record label distribution in favor of total creative autonomy.
The design of this item reflects a minimalist and artisanal aesthetic, intentionally distancing itself from mass-produced commercial releases. By handling every aspect of the project personally, Spannhoff intended to create a unique artifact that mirrors the intimate, atmospheric qualities of the music contained within. Given its highly limited and self-distributed nature, the project was primarily aimed at a small circle of collectors and followers of the European experimental soundscape, receiving notice more as a boutique object of art than a conventional commercial product.
