Where it came from
Released in 2000, 'I' serves as the debut recording for The Marc Atkinson Trio, a group based out of British Columbia, Canada. The album was produced independently, reflecting the trio's commitment to the gypsy jazz tradition popularized by Django Reinhardt, while incorporating contemporary elements of swing and original compositions that highlight Atkinson's distinctive approach to the acoustic guitar.
The album was crafted to showcase the technical proficiency and tight interplay between Atkinson, rhythm guitarist Joey Smith, and bassist Scott White. Upon its release, the recording was well-received within the Canadian jazz community, earning critical praise for its vibrant energy and providing a foundation for the trio to establish themselves as significant figures in the modern swing and jazz manouche circuits.
