Where it came from
Released in 2004 on the Lupus Lounge label, this split CD brings together two distinct projects within the German underground music scene: Sun of the Sleepless, the atmospheric black metal endeavor of Marcus Stock, and Nachtmahr. The release emerged during a period when the Prophecy Productions sub-label was actively championing experimental and dark metal acts that bridged the gap between traditional black metal textures and more melancholic, introspective soundscapes.
The split served as a platform for these artists to explore nuanced song structures, with Stock’s contributions to Sun of the Sleepless particularly praised for their brooding, poetic approach to the genre. The design reflects the austere and evocative aesthetic common to the label's early 2000s catalog, focusing on a stark, atmospheric visual identity that mirrors the somber and introspective nature of the compositions featured on the disc.
