Where it came from
Released in 2022 on the independent label Waldinsel Records, Im Zentrum Des Kreisels represents a contemporary contribution to the German singer-songwriter tradition. Rüdiger Bierhorst, a musician known for his work with the band Die Zöllner and his solo career, crafted this project as a deeply personal exploration of introspection and urban life. The album fits within the broader context of modern German folk-pop, focusing on lyrical storytelling and acoustic arrangements that reflect a mature, observational perspective on the world.
The design and artistic direction of the album are aligned with the minimalist aesthetic often championed by Waldinsel Records, emphasizing a clean, focused visual identity that mirrors the introspective nature of the music. By centering the work on the concept of the 'Kreisel'—or roundabout—Bierhorst creates a metaphor for the cyclical nature of human experiences and the search for stillness amidst constant movement. Upon its release, the record was received as a sincere and technically proficient effort that highlights Bierhorst's enduring ability to connect with an audience through understated, poetic songcraft.
