Where it came from
This 2009 reissue belongs to the New Jazz label's archival catalog, a series dedicated to preserving hard bop and soul jazz sessions from the late 1950s and early 1960s. The original recordings featuring saxophonist John Jenkins, Clifford Jordan, and pianist Bobby Timmons capture the vibrant atmosphere of the New York City jazz scene during a period when the genre was shifting toward more gospel-inflected and blues-heavy arrangements.
The design of this release adheres to the aesthetic standards of Prestige and New Jazz reissues, which often prioritize the original minimalist cover art and essential liner notes to maintain the historical integrity of the session. Critically, these recordings are noted for the interplay between Jenkins' fluid, bop-oriented phrasing and Timmons' rhythmic, soul-drenched piano style, which helped define the sound of many iconic Blue Note and New Jazz records of that era.
