Where it came from
This release features a collaboration between Dutch cabaret icons Jenny Arean and Marijn Brouwers, emerging from their 2017 theatrical production titled 'De Grote Jenny Arean Show'. The CD documents a unique artistic partnership that bridges different generations of Dutch musical theatre, pairing Arean's legendary status as a grande dame of the genre with Brouwers' contemporary interpretation of the cabaret tradition.
The recording focuses on intimate, piano-led arrangements that highlight the lyrical storytelling central to both performers' work. By opting for a self-released format rather than a traditional major label, the artists maintained creative autonomy over the track selection and presentation, resulting in a project that serves as both a memento of their stage chemistry and a tribute to the classic Dutch chanson style.
