Jenny And The Mexicats

Released in 2016 through the label Casete, this self-titled album marked a significant consolidation of the band's identity as a multicultural ensemble. Formed in Madrid by British trumpeter Jenny Ball and members from Spain and Mexico, the band blended flamenco, jazz, folk, and cumbia. This project followed their earlier success in the independent scene, aiming to capture their dynamic, genre-fluid live energy in a studio format that appealed to a growing international audience.

The album reflects the band's signature fusion approach, a design philosophy that eschews strict categorization in favor of rhythmic accessibility. The production sought to balance the brass-heavy arrangements typical of the group with accessible pop sensibilities. Upon release, it was well-received by critics for its infectious energy and served as a pivotal point in their career, solidifying their status as a bridge between the Latin American and European alternative music circuits.
