Jenny Gear & The Whiskey Kittens

Released independently in 2004, this self-titled CD represents the debut effort from Jenny Gear & The Whiskey Kittens. Emerging from the regional music scene of the era, the project was part of a wave of independent artists utilizing self-distributed labels to bypass traditional industry gatekeepers. The production reflects a raw, authentic approach, prioritizing the band's specific stylistic blend over the polished aesthetic often associated with major label pop releases.

The album was designed to capture the dynamic energy of the band's live performances, featuring artwork and liner notes that reflect the group's down-to-earth aesthetic. By managing the release through her own label, Gear maintained total creative control over the sound and packaging. While the album functioned primarily as a calling card for the band's local touring efforts, it remains a snapshot of a period in independent music where grassroots distribution and direct-to-fan sales were becoming increasingly viable.
