Where it came from
Released in 2009 on the independent label Seahorse Recordings, this self-titled album captures the distinct sound of Jenny's Joke during a period of prolific underground activity in the late 2000s. The record emerged from the indie and experimental scene championed by the label, which was known for fostering niche acts that blended lo-fi sensibilities with unconventional pop structures.
The album serves as a definitive document of the artist's creative direction at the time, prioritizing raw instrumentation and intimate vocal delivery. While the production is understated, it remains a notable example of the Seahorse Recordings aesthetic, characterized by an emphasis on artistic autonomy and a departure from mainstream polish, which earned it a dedicated following among listeners of indie-label catalogs.
