Jolly Jolly / アイロニー

Released in 2006 on the Pony Canyon label, Jolly Jolly / アイロニー represents an early milestone for the Japanese jazz-pop ensemble JiLL-Decoy association, often referred to as Jill-Decoy. The group formed in the early 2000s, carving out a unique niche in the Tokyo music scene by blending sophisticated jazz instrumentation with accessible, melodic pop sensibilities. This CD release highlights the band's initial efforts to establish a crossover appeal, catering to listeners who appreciated tight arrangements and emotive vocal delivery.

The musical direction of the project was largely defined by the interplay between Chihiro's distinctive vocal style and the intricate composition work of Kubota and Towada. During this period, the band sought to cultivate a sound that felt both contemporary and grounded in classic jazz traditions. The reception of their early work was generally positive within the Japanese independent music community, positioning the trio as a rising force in the domestic jazz-pop circuit and setting the stage for their later major label collaborations and broader critical acclaim.
