Ladies & Gentlemen. The Best Of Mariah Carey

Released in late 1998, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of Mariah Carey served as the artist's first international greatest hits compilation, arriving at the height of her commercial dominance in the 1990s. The album was structured to consolidate her string of record-breaking number-one singles, balancing her signature power ballads with her increasingly influential foray into R&B and hip-hop production.

The collection reflects the transition of Carey's musical identity during the late nineties, moving from the polished adult contemporary sound of her early career toward the more urban-centric aesthetic showcased on the Butterfly album. The design and tracklist curation were deliberate in capturing a decade of global success, effectively serving as a sonic archive of her collaboration with key producers like Walter Afanasieff and the Trackmasters.
