Where it came from
Los Van Van 1974 is a reissue collection released by Murakami's in 1994, focusing on the seminal early works of the legendary Cuban band founded by Juan Formell. The recordings capture the band during their formative years in the early 1970s, a period defined by the development of the songo rhythm, which revolutionized Cuban popular music by blending traditional son with funk, rock, and jazz elements.
The 1994 release served to preserve and reintroduce these influential tracks to a global audience during a time of renewed international interest in Cuban music. The production was intended to showcase the sophisticated arrangements and the innovative bass-heavy sound that Formell pioneered, which helped cement Los Van Van as one of the most significant dance orchestras in Latin music history.
