Ludovico Einaudi: Portrait

Released in 2015 by the Canadian label Analekta, this compilation features the acclaimed violinist Angèle Dubeau and her all-female ensemble, La Pietà. The project was born out of Dubeau’s long-standing admiration for the minimalist compositions of Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi. By reinterpreting Einaudi's atmospheric works for a string ensemble, Dubeau sought to highlight the lyrical and emotive qualities inherent in his music, moving his pieces from the solo piano realm into a more lush, symphonic texture.

The album serves as a definitive portrait of Einaudi's melodic sensibilities, curated by Dubeau to showcase the rhythmic vitality and meditative nature of his compositions. Upon its release, the collection was well-received by fans of modern classical music, praised for the fluid collaboration between the composer’s core vision and the expressive, nuanced playing of La Pietà. It remains a hallmark of Dubeau’s efforts to bridge the gap between contemporary minimalism and the traditional classical string repertoire.
