Where it came from
Released in 2006 by the Italian publication L'Espresso as part of a multimedia series, this CD presents an adaptation of Italo Calvino’s classic collection of short stories, Marcovaldo ovvero Le stagioni in città. The project sought to bridge the gap between Calvino’s literary legacy and the contemporary oral tradition, utilizing the expressive narration of Marco Paolini to bring the whimsical, urban-focused stories to life for a modern audience.
The production leans into the melancholic yet humorous essence of the titular character, a simple worker navigating the disconnect between nature and industrial post-war Italy. The collaboration between the artistic team and L'Espresso aimed to provide a sonic experience that captured the atmosphere of Calvino’s settings, with the design elements reflecting the archival and editorial aesthetic characteristic of the publisher's cultural collections during that period.
