Matthew & Me

Matthew & Me emerged from the South Devon music scene in the early 2010s, capturing a specific moment in the UK folk-rock revival. This self-titled EP was released independently by the band as they began to gain traction through touring and festival slots, serving as a primary calling card for their ethereal, atmospheric sound. The group, fronted by Matthew Board, focused on blending intricate acoustic arrangements with soaring, cinematic swells that drew frequent comparisons to artists like Sigur Rós or early Mumford & Sons.

The design of the release reflects the band's intimate, organic approach to their music, often favoring hand-crafted aesthetics that mirrored the rugged coastal landscapes of their home in Devon. By keeping the release independent, the band maintained total creative control over the artistic presentation, ensuring the visual identity remained tethered to the melancholic and expansive themes found within the songs. Upon its arrival, the EP was well-received by regional press and niche indie blogs, establishing the foundation for their later development as a cohesive studio act.
