Where it came from
Released in 1989 by the independent label El Bandoneón, this compilation serves as a curated archival effort to preserve the golden age of Argentine tango. The label specialized in reissuing rare, high-quality recordings of classic tango orchestras from the 1930s and 1940s, providing a vital bridge between original 78-rpm discography and the digital era of the late twentieth century.
The album brings together the distinct vocal styles of Nelly Omar and Francisco Fiorentino, supported by the foundational work of Francisco Canaro’s orchestra and early arrangements involving Astor Piazzolla. The design reflects the label's minimalist, utilitarian approach to packaging, prioritizing the preservation of the raw historical audio fidelity over elaborate cover art, which was standard practice for collectors' reissue series intended primarily for historical documentation.
