Where it came from
Par La Rivière was released in 2009 under the Osez Joséphine Musique label, serving as a significant entry in Chloé Mons’ discography. Mons, who often navigates the intersection of folk and chanson, crafted this record during a period of creative exploration that emphasized intimate arrangements and lyrical depth. The album reflects a deliberate shift toward a stripped-back, atmospheric sound, prioritizing the nuance of the human voice alongside carefully considered instrumentation.
The album's design and aesthetic identity align with Mons’ broader artistic commitment to subtle, evocative storytelling. By working within the Osez Joséphine framework, she maintained creative autonomy that allowed for a cohesive thematic focus throughout the project. Upon its release, the record was noted by critics for its understated poise, finding its place within the contemporary French indie folk scene as a quiet yet firm statement of intent from the artist.
