Where it came from
Rozmowy s catem was released in 1997 on the Mózg Production label, emerging from the vibrant yass scene in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The collaboration brought together the experimental clarinetist Mazzoll and the influential singer Kazik Staszewski, backed by the ensemble Arhythmic Perfection. It serves as a quintessential artifact of the Polish avant-garde movement of the late nineties, which sought to challenge traditional jazz structures through irreverent humor, free improvisation, and eclectic sonic layering.
The album is noted for its idiosyncratic sound design, which blends Kazik's idiosyncratic vocal delivery with Mazzoll’s unconventional approach to composition. The record was conceived during a period of prolific experimentation within the Mózg club collective, a hub for artists pushing the boundaries of local music culture. Upon its release, it was received as a provocative and highly individualistic project, cementing its status as a cult classic among listeners who favored the intersection of jazz, punk, and performance art.
