Rouler Sur La Rivière

Rouler sur la rivière was released in 1997 as a promotional single from Johnny Hallyday's thirty-ninth studio album, Ce que je sais. The track is a French-language adaptation of John Fogerty's classic Proud Mary, originally made famous by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Its production reflects Hallyday’s long-standing effort to bridge American roots rock, blues, and soul with the French variety tradition, a hallmark of his late-career work under the creative guidance of collaborators like Pascal Obispo.

The recording serves as a testament to Hallyday's enduring connection to the American rock aesthetic. By choosing to interpret a cornerstone of swamp rock, Hallyday and his team sought to reinvigorate his stage persona for a new generation of listeners while maintaining the raw, energetic vocal style that defined his status as the premier figure of French rock and roll. It remains a notable entry in his discography for its clear homage to the CCR soundscape.
