'S Make It

S Make It was released in 2004 by Verve Records as part of an effort to reissue and highlight historically significant sessions from the hard bop era. This collection serves as a compilation of tracks that capture the quintessential sound of Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, a powerhouse ensemble that served as a finishing school for many of the most influential jazz musicians in the second half of the twentieth century. The release was designed to provide listeners with a curated experience of Blakey's high-energy percussion and the collective improvisational brilliance that defined the group's live performances and studio work.

The recording draws from a rich legacy established throughout the 1950s and 1960s, a period when the Jazz Messengers acted as the primary vehicle for the hard bop movement. The design and production of this CD reflect the standard high-fidelity archival practices of Verve Records during the early 2000s, focusing on audio restoration that honors the raw, driving intensity of Blakey’s drumming. Critics and jazz historians generally received such reissues as essential resources for preserving the genre's canon, providing new generations of listeners access to the rhythmic sophistication and soul-inflected melodies that characterize the Messengers' extensive discography.
