Where it came from
S teboj is a significant compilation released in 2004 by ZKP RTVS, intended to preserve and honor the storied musical partnership of Majda Sepe and her husband, the composer and conductor Mojmir Sepe. As one of the most prominent figures in the Slovenian popular music scene during the mid-20th century, Majda Sepe was known for her emotive vocal style and her frequent collaborations with top-tier composers, of which Mojmir was the most influential. This release serves as an archival retrospective, curating a selection of their work that defined the era of the Ljubljana Festival and the burgeoning Slovenian jazz and pop scene.
The design of the collection reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of the era the music was originally recorded, focusing on legacy and artistic cohesion rather than contemporary trends. The compilation was released during a period of renewed interest in the Slovenian musical canon, aimed at both longtime admirers of Sepe’s work and younger listeners discovering the rich arrangements of the 1960s and 70s. Its reception was marked by nostalgia, as it successfully captured the sophistication of the orchestral arrangements that had become synonymous with the Sepe duo’s creative identity.
